Cuzco and surrounding communities

8-day immersion program visiting Cuzco, Peru, and surrounding villages with meetings with local Amerindians, learning about their traditions and community organizations. This trip is organized in partnership with the Jesuit run organization Asociación Jesús Obrero, with 48 years helping local communities with pastoral, education and economic development work. There will be several hiking opportunities and one day visit to City of Machu Picchu.

Cost: US$1,100 to 1,500 per participant. (2020 prices)


PERU SCHEDULE SAMPLE

Each trip is customized by focus-theme, local holidays, transportation challenges, etc.

Day 1
Arrival in Cusco, Peru.
Drive to Andahuaylillas (60 minutes).
Visit local Catholic Parish to learn about the social, education and pastoral work.
Overnight in Casa Tinkuy Wasi.

Day 2
Drive to Valle Sagrado (90 minutes).
Visit the communities of Pisac, Calca, Urubamba y Ollantaytambo.
Overnigh in Ollantaytambo.

Day 3
Train to Machu Picchu.
Archaeological visit of Machu Picchu.
Overnight in Andahuaylillas (2 hours).

Day 4
Visit Yanacancha (2 hours driving) to learn about local myths, legends and interaction with the community.
Experience the hot springs of Pacchanta.
Overnight in Pacchanta.

Day 5
Hiking Day around the Nevado Ausangate.
Visit family raising Llamas Experience the hot springs.
Cultural night with the community of Pacchanta.
Overnight in Pacchanta.

Day 6
Visit the community of Andamayo.
Meeting with local farmers producing guinea pigs, pine mushrooms and dairy products.
Learn about local myths, legends of Andamayo.
Drive back to Cusco (2 hours).
Overnight in Casa Tinkuy Wasi in Andahuaylillas.

Day 7
Morning tour of the City of Cuzco.
Free afternoon in the City of Cuzco.
Flight back to the United States.
