Northern of the Hispaniola

Eight day immersion program visiting communities in Santiago– center of the Cibao Valley in the north of the Dominican Republic, and Dajabón–a border community with Haiti. This program will focus on the life of Dominican farm workers, and Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic. The trip will include visits to a farmers social center, a regional museum, a sugar farm village, a banana plantation, the Bi-National Market, two day-trips to border communities in Haiti, one morning at the beach, a guided night-out in Santiago, and several lectures.

Santo domingo & EAST OF HISPANIOLA

Eight day immersion program exploring Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, and several communities in the East and South of the country. This program will provide an understanding of several issues (education, children, immigrant, race) and solutions to such problems. Trip will include: lectures, a guided night-out in Santo Domingo, and visits to inner-city neighborhoods, sugar farm villages (bateyes), nonprofits, and colonial landmarks.

HAITI

Eight day immersion program visiting Northern Haiti, including Cap-Haïtien, Fort-Liberté and the historical Citadel, an important landmark of the first black revolution in the Americas. This trip will explore the binational cultural and trade exchange between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and the work many business and community organizations on both sides of the northern international border. If conditions are appropriate, the trip may include a day visit to the Dominican Republic, crossing the international border.

Cost: US$1,100 to 1,500 per participant. (2020 prices)


COLOMBIA

Cali, Colombia 8-day immersion program visiting rural communities around Quebradaseca, small village located one hour north of Cali, Colombia. The program ex[lore the work of organizations in the rural communities of the “Valle del Cauca,” in the areas of economic empowerment and local development, focusing on environmentally friendly crops and sustainable trade.

PERU

Cuzco and surrounding communities 8-day immersion program visiting Cuzco, Peru, and surrounding villages with meetings with local Amerindians, learning about their traditions and community organizations. There will be several hiking opportunities and one day visit to City of Machu Picchu.

SOUth BORDER OF the HISPANIOLA

Eight day immersion program visiting communities in the Dominican-Haitian border provinces of Independencia and Bahoruco. This program will focus on the life of Dominican farm workers and Haitian migrant workers in the Dominican Republic, and the work that faith-based groups are undertaking with these underserved populations. If the conditions are appropriate, the trip may include a day visit to Haiti, crossing the international border.

hAVANA AND cienfuegos

Eight day immersion program visiting Havana and surrounding communities in the West region of Cuba. This faith-based program is co-organized by local Catholic groups in Cuba, and will explore the lives of Catholic communities and the services to the Cuban society provided by them.

guyana 

This 8-day immersion program starts in Georgetown, the Capital of Guyana and travels to the City of Lethem, near the Amazons, bordering Brazil.   The program is centered around the Encyclical Laudato Si, and the concerns of the Amerindians.  Participants will learn about the Catholic Church in Guyana and their work seving this South American country.

High School Service and Immersion

One week of services and immersion: two days of service working with local community groups near Santiago, DR, one day at the Puerto Plata Beach, and three days in a “service leadership camp” with Dominican high school students.

MUSIC SERVICE TRIP

8 to 10 days of music, service and fun. This music service immersion program will give US students a meaningful intercultural experience while sharing and teaching their music skills to Cuban teenagers. They will music jam for several days, learn Cuban rhythms, and gain leadership skill with the organization of a public concern.
